Look What Jess Got!

I lost my auction to win Jess a signed game puck from the Winter Classic but I did win this autographed photo of her man Ryan Callahan! Gave it to her just because she’s the best. I must say I think I did a pretty good job framing it even though I broke the first frame lol.

If you are a hockey fan or love someone who is, check out the NHL auctions site. They have a lot of awesome stuff for really cheap. http://auction.nhl.com/

NY Rangers vs Winnipeg Jets

Tuesday Jess and I headed down to the city for the Rangers versus Jets game at MSG. Just a little something we did for her birthday Monday.

I broke in my new Jagr Rangers jersey that I promised I would wear as long as they weren’t playing Pittsburgh. As we figured the Rangers beat Winnipeg 3-0. Shockingly Winnipeg isn’t that bad this season for the fact that they threw themselves together and pretty much got rid of anything to do with the Thrashers at the start of the season.

Pittsburgh Penguins vs. NY Islanders

Jess and I headed out to Long Island Saturday to watch the Pittsburgh Penguins versus the NY Islanders. The seats were nice and in the middle, just horribly crappy. Tippy top row that looked like was crapily added to fit more people. Not even comfortable to sit in. No wonder why they were so cheap. Whatever we had a great time! Penguins won 6-3.

NY Rangers vs. Pittsburgh Penguins

The day finally came! Sadly it’s over already.

Tuesday Jess and I went down to the city to see the NY Rangers (her team) face the Pittsburgh Penguins (my team). Besides having to walk around in the rain, the night went very well. Smooth train ride down with a few beers, few more beers at a bar across from MSG, and then a few more beers while watching an awesome game.

Unfortunately somehow the Penguins lost. Don’t get it, makes no sense. Penguins lost 4-3.

Never had so much fun at a hockey game before. Helps when the other person is into it as much as you (if not more).

MLB 2011 “World Series”

Is anyone watching this? I honestly forgot for a second that it was even going on let alone what teams were playing. Sad that there will be more people in your local supermarket than watching the game tonight when there is a chance it will go to game seven if the Cardinals win. Oh well, baseball sucks. So glad hockey season started now that MLS is coming to an end.

I guess that’s what the MLB gets for having the audacity the call it the “World Series” when it only is the United States. Don’t get all technical with Toronto, it might as well be the US, Canada doesn’t count.

NHL Game: Pittsburgh Penguins vs. NJ Devils

Yesterday Andrew, Casey, Jamie and I went to a hockey game to see the Pittsburgh Penguins play the NJ Devils. As you probably know I’m a fan of the penguins and this was a little belated birthday treat for myself.

The trip down there was a nightmare. The game was Friday night so I knew NJ traffic was going to be bad, but I didn’t think I would wind up in 30 miles of bumper to bumper traffic. Holy crap it was annoying going 20mph or less on the Garden State. Things got even worse as we hit the local road to get into the stadium. We wound up being 20 minutes late and missing more than half of the first period.

Besides being late everything else went well. We had a ton of fun and enjoyed the stadium. I haven’t been to the NJ Devils’ stadium since it was Continental Airlines Arena over near the Medowlands. This was the nice new Prudential Center in downtown and it had to be the nicest stadium every. I felt like I was in a really big and neat mall with tons of escalators until you finally reached the ice rink in the middle.

Unfortunately the game ended in a loss to the Penguins. Devils won 3-1.

Redeeming My Christmas Present

I was finally able to redeem my Christmas present on President’s Day. Jamie had bought me tickets to go see my favorite hockey team play, the Pittsburgh Penguins. They were playing the New York Islanders at the Islanders arena, the Nassau Coliseum in Long Island.

I have been to a couple hockey games before with my father, but this was the first time Jamie had ever gone to one. She enjoyed watching the game, so I was very happy. I like the sport, actually my most favorite to watch. It is constant action, not like baseball that takes 40 minutes just to strike out or football that has 15 seconds of game time for every 20 minutes of TV timeouts.

This was my first trip to the Nassau Coliseum though, the other times I went my father got tickets to the New Jersey Devil’s arena, called the Continental Airlines Arena at the time, now the Prudential Center I believe. The stadium was very nice and well kept, crowds weren’t that bad at all considering it was a day off for most people. I just love the highway robbery at the concessions though, but that is everywhere now.

Maybe we can snag some more tickets later in the season. I want to see some other teams play, so we should be able to find some open games. It’s tough getting tickets because these local teams only play the Penguins so often at home. I’m still loyal to my Penguins, even though many years ago they traded my favorite player…now get this, to the team I hate the most (New York Rangers)! Just swell!

The Islanders wound up winning the game in a shootout. For those of you not up to what happens in a tie in hockey, they play a 5 minute period with only four guys on each time (normally five). If it is a tie after that, three players from each team go to a one-on-one shootout with the goalie, whoever scores more wins, if it still ties then it is a tie. Final score after shootout, Islanders 3, Penguins 2. Enjoy some pics from inside the arena.
